Founded in 1767, Louis XV gave it the prestigious name of Verrerie Royale de Saint Louis (Saint Louis Royal Glassworks). Fifteen years later the formula for the production of crystal was discovered by Fran ç ais de Beaufort; the verrerie Royale of Saint Louis was thus renamed the Cristallerie Royale of Saint Louis.

From 1829, exclusively crystal objects were created and the concept of a set of glasses for the table, the famous Trianon service , was introduced .
